Well, tonight I just did a first. I made a starter using liquid yeast. This will be pretty neat. I prepped about a gallon of wort (targeted about 1.035) and pitched the yeast. I'm using a smack pack 1010 from wyeast. I'm hoping for stellar results. This beer will mark my first attempt at a wheat. If it is tasty I'll recreate it and if it passes the second round test, I will make sure to post the recipe.
In addition to making the starter I have also began creating a grain utility. This seemed like a neat idea, and believe me, it really is. I have some tweaking to do to it before I will share it. I'm also thinking of adding a mash calculator and a hydrometer converter into it. Punch in your gravity, temp and bam - it will print your gravity. Hopefully I can squeeze some time out over the weekend to do it.
Saturday will be the brew day. I'm pretty excited. Since my last post I have purchased a new burner. Its one of those Bayou Classic Banjo burners that is supposed to pump out 210k. I don't think I will need it that high. Depending on the propane usage, I may or may not need to modify it.
Well until next post, Happy Brewing!
Edit - adding a photo of the starter!
